What's the role? 

Provide senior planning expertise across multiple engineering and construction projects in the electrical transmission and distribution sector. Take technical responsibility for the quality, credibility and integration of assigned project programmes, using Primavera P6 to give project teams, clients and senior leaders a reliable view of delivery commitments, emerging delays and recovery options.

The planner provides a service to each Project Manager. Build and maintain a trusted working relationship through regular one to one communication, understanding the PM’s priorities and agreeing how planning support will help them deliver. Translate planning analysis into practical advice and actions that the PM can use.

Key Responsibilities: 

•  Lead planning for several concurrent projects within a wider portfolio normally covered by two or three planners. Prioritise the assigned workload according to contractual deadlines, project risk and delivery needs.
•  Be accountable for the integrity of planning analysis and recommendations. Project Managers retain delivery accountability; Commercial retains responsibility for contractual positions and settlement.
• Develop and maintain integrated Primavera P6 programmes from tender and mobilisation through engineering, procurement, manufacture where relevant, installation, commissioning and handover.
• Lead preparation and technical review of programme submissions and revisions in accordance with the applicable NEC3 contract requirements and agreed submission timetable. Coordinate inputs with Project Managers and Commercial.
•  Integrate cost and resource loading into Primavera P6 where required. Produce time phased labour, plant and material requirements and identify demand conflicts across assigned projects.
•  Provide technical coaching and peer review for other planners and project teams. Share NEC3 and Primavera P6 expertise to strengthen planning capability.
•  Act as the senior planning representative for assigned projects in client meetings, project reviews, risk workshops and tender discussions. Explain and defend programme logic and analysis clearly.

• Demonstrable experience independently leading planning across complex, concurrent engineering and construction projects, with interfaces between design, procurement, suppliers and site delivery.
•  Proven practical NEC3 planning experience, including preparing and updating contract programmes and analysing the programme impact of compensation events and delay. Able to explain personal responsibility and outcomes from previous projects.
•  Advanced Primavera P6 capability, including integrated schedule development, logic and critical path analysis, baselines, progress updates, resource and cost loading, and scenario modelling.
•  Strong understanding of project controls, cost and resource forecasting, earned value principles and the relationship between programme performance and commercial exposure.
•  Ability to prioritise multiple project demands and contractual reporting deadlines, work independently and provide practical technical support to colleagues.
